John is my 1st cousin 5x removed. John, Sr. was the brother of my 4th great grandfather, Matthew Murdy, who is buried in the Murdy Cemetery, Richhill Twp., Greene County, PA.

John Sr b. 1786, d. 2 Oct 1872; Eleanor/Helen died 9 Feb 1862.

John Jr married Mary “Polly” Tuttle. In 1870, Mary requested a widow’s pension. Mary’s will was dated 28 Jan, 1891 with her death date as 11 Sep 1892. They had a daughter, Mary, b. Abt 1842 (per 1850 census), d. prior to 1860 (not on 1860 census). The will of John Sr, dated Apr 1, 1862, stated regarding John Jr “if he and his wife die without heir...” So that is what I based the death of their daughter, Mary. No burial was found for Mary or their daughter.

The family was living in his parents’ household in the 1850 census. In the 1860 census, their daughter was not listed. Mary was listed living in John Sr household in the 1870 census.

John served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted in Company F, 85th Infantry Regiment of Pennsylvania. He enlisted on Aug 22, 1864 and was discharged on Jun 10, 1865 by general order.
