A former local resident, Robert E. Wacker, 39, of 114 Nesper Road, Oak Ridge, Tennessee died of cancer on Thursday of last week at Oak Ridge hospital. He was hospitalized early in September at Vanderbilt University hospital, Nashville, Tennessee where he underwent four major surgeries during a period of about three months in an effort to arrest the disease. In December he was returned home, where he spent five weeks before entering Oak Ridge hospital on January 14.

The deceased, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wacker, was born and reared in Culbertson and graduated from Culbertson high school with the class of 1940. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Wacker was a chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, reactor division. Following his graduation from the University of Nebraska in 1944, he went to Oak Ridge where he was employed by Tennessee Eastman Corporation, operators of the Y-12 plant. In 1946 he joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was active in bowling circles, civic affairs, and was a member of the First Methodist church.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Methodist church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee with the Rev. W.M. Seymour officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Alma; one daughter, Pamela, 13; and one son, Robert Jr., 11, all of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Carl Herman of Culbertson and a number of other relatives.
