Everyone who knew Harry, said there could "not have been a nicer guy"!!!

His father was very rigid and did not let the sons go to school, but wanted them to work on the farm. Harry was unhappy and left and went to work for his sister and her husband (Ralph and Mary Weber Ronan).

There he met the love of his life, Frieda Miller, the daughter of David and Katherine (Katie) Miller. I believe the Millers lived on a farm next to Ralph and Mary Weber Ronan, Laurel, MT.

Harry enlisted for WWII on December 4, 1941 at Missoula, MT.

He and Frieda were married in either Tacoma or Seattle, WA on the day he was shipped out in 1942.

Harry was a cook in the army and was a private first class with the 15th INF, 3rd Div. They were named the "Rock of the Marne". In WWII, this div. landed with General Patton's task force in a contested amphibious landing on the coast of Morocco, Africia, overwhelming Vichy French defenders in November, 1942. They were in North Africa in 1943. This division invaded Sicily, Italy in July 1943, invaded Salerno, Italy in September, 1943.

Harry was killed on October 13, 1943, near Naples, Italy. They were fighting the Germans and he was on night patrol, because he could speak German. He was blown to bits and received a purple heart..which I believe is in the possession of Billie Ronan. His widow remarried several times and in 2013 lives in Billings, MT (Freida Rollins) and is in her 90's.

Six years after his death, his remains (in a small box) were returned from Italy to the US. A funeral and re-burial were held at this time in 1949, Laurel, MT. His father, applied six years after his death for a military headstone.

So sad a beautiful life was lost so young....at age 26.
