Chris Goettsche Dies of Apoplexy

Chris Goettsche, 68, died about 3:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at a hospital in Hastings, following a stroke of apoplexy. In poor health for the past year, Mr. Goettsche was taken to the Hastings hospital for treatment last May. He was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on May 14, 1864. In 1881 he came to Grand Island. Later he resided in Howard county for about five years but later returned to engage in farming five miles southeast of this city. For the past year the family residence has been at 518 West 8th street.

On December 2, 1890, Mr. Goettsche married Sophia Nietfeldt, who survives him. HE is also survived by five sons, W,., of St. Paul; John, of Cincinnati, O.; Henry, Clarence and R. A., all of Grand Island; two daughters, Mrs. R. J. Goettsch of Hammill, S. Dak.; Elsie, residing at home; and one sister, Mrs. I. Hansen of Shelby, Neb. Two daughters and one son have preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Chris Goettsche will be held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock from the home, 518 West 8th street, and at one-thirty o'clock from St. Paul's German Lutheran church, Seventh and Locust streets. Rev. O. Hausmann officiating. The body will be taken to St. Paul, for burial in the family plot in the St. Paul cemetery.
