Ober Maschinst Maat, German Navy. After being badly damaged by a collision with the Canadian frigate HMCS New Glasgow, the German submarine U-1003 (captained by Oberleutnant zur See Werner Heinrich Wilhelm Strübing) was scuttled in the Northern Channel north of Malin Head, Ireland on 23 march 1945. The Captain and 14 crew members (including Georg Pruchnik), perished in the water and of the survivors, another 2 (Karl Maier and Paul Zander) died soon after being rescued and were buried at sea.

The body of Georg Pruchnik was found washed ashore at Fang Mhor on the Isle of Muck, Scotland on 6 April 1945. The bodies of

Walter Bücker,
Karl Heinz Golz,
Erwin Prill,
Alfred Schenk,
Werner Strübing,
Erich Thoss,
Luitpold Urlaub and
Georg Woiczyk
were also recovered and buried but those of
Paul Barwig,
Gerhard Greulich,
Herbert Karp,
Josef Löffler and
Franz Szukala
do not appear to have been found.

Georg Pruchnik is also commemorated on the Moltenort U-Boat Memorial, Germany.
