Mrs. W. H. Stoakes passed away Saturday afternoon at her home in Albion after a brief illness. Apparently in her usual health Saturday morning, she was taken ill shortly after the noon hour and died before the close of the afternoon.
Alice Mira Jameyson, eldest daughter of Charles and Aroline Jameyson, was born in Clinton County, Iowa, near the city of Clinton, on July 26, 1856, and passed away at her home in Albion, Nebraska, July 7, 1934. Aged 77 years, 11 months and 19 days.
In 1868 she with her parents moved to Tama County, Iowa, and settled near the town of Traer, where she met and married Dr. W. H. Stoakes, her lifetime companion who survives her. For more than 57 years they traveled life's pathway together.
To this union were born eight children, all living, and all present at the funeral service. They are: Mrs. Irene Maxwell, Albion; Ralph of Mason City, Iowa; Howard of Humbolt, Iowa; Roger of Albion; Mrs. Hazel Cook, of Albion; Leo of Anamosa, Iowa; Mrs. Ruby Williamson of Albion; and Mrs. Naomi Manka of Grand Island.
Besides the aged husband and children, there are left to sorrow for her passing 29 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Out of the immediate family there are two brothers, Champe Jameyson of California and Courtney Jameyson of Wyoming.
Along with these there is a host of neighbors and friends who will miss her cheery smile and word of comfort and hope.
Early in Mrs. Stoakes life she became a member of the Congregational church. Transferring her membership to the Baptist church on moving to Humboldt county, Iowa, and remaining in that faith until the end. In addition to her church affiliation, Mrs. Stoakes was for many years a member of the Rebekah lodge and enjoyed her relationship very much.
Mrs. Stoakes was of a happy congenial nature and will be missed by the family, her friends and loved ones.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church of Albion on Tuesday, July 10, at 3:00 p.m. in charge of Rev. Oscar Creech, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. E. F. Edmonds, the pastor. Burial in the Rose Hill cemetery.
