GERHARD SCHADE, 90, of rural Perrysville, died Friday morning, July 31, 2015 in Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville following an extended illness.

Mr. Schade was born October 16, 1924 in Steinberg, Germany. He entered the German Merchant Marine at age 15 and while at home following an illness he was captured by the Russian Army and placed in a labor camp from 1945 until 1949. While in the camp he met Dorothea Doerner and they were married March 25, 1950 in Hamburg, Germany. In 1955 Gerhard and his family immigrated to Cleveland where he was a stone and brick mason and a member of the Bricklayers Union #5 in Cleveland. He was very proud of the quality of the work he performed and his brickwork is evident locally and in the Cleveland area. Gerhard was a fun loving, gregarious, generous man of amazing strength. He was always happy to be the “life of the party”. Although he endured much during his life, his faith in God overcame many obstacles. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Gerhard was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Perrysville and The Sachsenheim Club of Cleveland.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothea Doerner Schade whom he married March 25, 1950; his son Dieter (Lucy) Schade of rural Perrysville; two daughters, Karin (Roy) McFarland of Ashland, and Linda Delaney of Seven Hills; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a beloved nephew Ralf Schlesiger of Germany and nephews and niece, Peter, Petra, and Gunter Schlesiger.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, Perrysville with Rev. Bege Wiegman officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Friends may call Monday August 3 from 5-7 p.m. in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville. The family request memorials to St. John Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Schade family wishes to thank Colonial Manor for their wonderful, loving care of Gerhard during his stay there.
