Henry Bintala was killed in the Scofield mine disaster May 1st,1900. There were 200 good men killed here. Relief services came from all over the country and especially from around Utah. The outpouring was heart felt and genuine. A flwoer train was sent through towns in Utah picking up boquets of flowers from many towns and the train was filled with beautiful flowers. This was a spontaneous happening and a blessing for the 107 grieving widows. The cemetery, while bleak and desolate was at least finely decorated. Imagine if you will, a cemetery area about an acre with 100 fresh graves dug and awaiting refilling. On the day of the funeral a howling rainstorm set in. Most things about this disaster just keep getting worse. The wonderful flower train was a respite from despair, even if temporary.

J.W. Dilley in HSMD does not list a Bintala at all. Contemporary lists show four. My hope is over the generations the different familys have come forward with oral histories or letters and Bintala is the correct name spelling.
