Eileen Clare Haefele, 77, of Topeka, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. Eileen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.

She was born July 1, 1930 in Sabetha, the daughter of Henry Andrew and Eva Catherine Rooney Studer.

Eileen graduated from Fairview High School and from the Sabetha Hospital School of Nursing. Eileen retired from St. Francis Hospital in 1992. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Diamond Club and the Spaulding Club.

Eileen married Thomas J. Haefele in 1951. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erin Harless in 1983 and a sister in law, Margaret Meinhardt.

Survivors include daughter Cindy Harless (David), Winston Salem, NC; son Tom Haefele,II, Topeka; son Dan Haefele (Susan), Lewisville, TX; daughter Carol Bright (Sam), Fayetteville, NC; Judy Goetz (Aaron), Apex, NC; 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; siblings Kathy Haag, Hiawatha, Henry Studer, Jr (Sharon), Sabetha, Alyce King (Tom), DeSoto, Raymond Studer, Hiawatha, sisters in law, Dorothy Shump (Lawrence), Sabetha and Agatha Sudbeck (Junias), Seneca; brother in law, Jerome Meinhardt, Paxico and many nieces and nephews.

Eileen will lie in state after 2 p.m., today at the Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW. Urish Rd., Topeka, KS 66614, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 pm. A parish rosary will be prayed at 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thurs. at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
