Funeral services for Alex W. Schmunk, age 80, of Route 1, Mitchell, Nebraska, who died Wednesday night at a Gering Health Care Center, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with Rev. James E. Rowe officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, Nebraska. He was born October 30, 1906 in Winnipeg, Canada, and moved with his family to Sugar City, Colorado, that same year. The family resided in Oklahoma for one year before moving to Bayard, Nebraska, where he grew up and received his early education. The family moved to a farm in Mitchell Valley in 1926, where he has been a farmer and cattlefeeder most of his lifetime. He was married to Mollie SHICK in Gering, Nebraska, on September 12, 1932, and they farmed until retirement in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Mollie Schmunk of Mitchell, Nebraska; two sons, Robert of Aurora, Colorado, and Paul of Gering, Nebraska; one daughter, Dorothy Neill of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers, Henry of Morrill, Nebraska, and Harry of Mitchell, Nebraska; one sister, Hilda Haun of Gering, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and one grandson.
