Michael J. Schweiger, 84, of Athens, Pa., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, with his loving family by his side.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Julia Schweiger; and brother, Fredrick Schweiger.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Donna DeKay Schweiger; children, Michael (Debra) Schweiger of River Edge, N.J., Stephen (Rhonda) Schweiger of Elmira, Timothy (Kathy) Schweiger of Lawrenceville, Ga., Michele (Patrick) Sullivan of Sayre, and Robert (Michelle) Schweiger of Campbell; sister, Josephine (Richard) Canzler of Barton; brother, Richard Schweiger of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael, Catherine, Christopher, Patrick, Nicole, Brent, Joshua, Jason, Tasha, Shelby, Alexander, and Allison; great-grandchildren, Payton, Rylan, Lucas, Emma, and Haley; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike served as chief petty officer in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a 20-year Navy Reservist. He was a lifelong member of St. James Church in Waverly, where he served as an usher for many years. Mike was a union pipefitter/welder Local #267. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling, bus trips and cruises. Mike enjoyed his time with his family, including the many family vacations.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 503 Clark St., Waverly, with the Rev. Peter Van Lieshout officiating, and burial to follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors accorded.

Memorial donations may be made in Michael's name to a charity of one's choice.

The family is being assisted by Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad St., Waverly, N.Y.
