Translation of an obituary published in the Czech language newspaper "Nova Doba" [New Age] published November 28, 1913, page 4.
"After a long 13-month illness, death overtook Rudolf Beran on Monday. Rudolf was born April 1, 1871, in Zhori, district of Litomysle, county of Chrudim in Bohemia, and came to America some 20 years ago. He first came to Chicago, but shortly after went to Republic County, Kansas, and worked on a farm. About 15 years ago moved to Omaha and worked for the Brandeis Store, then later worked for the Union Pacific R.R. until his illness.
He is survived by his wife and step-brother, Anton Kroulik, who lives on a farm near Cuba, Kansas. He was a member of #183 of Woodman of the World. Burial was on Thursday November 27 under the direction of Frank Janda mortuary on the Bohemian National Cemetery. Mr. Anton Kroulik and his wife Anna came from Cuba, Kansas to attend the funeral."
