Sandra Kay Witmer Schulz was born on February 12, 1939, in Wayne, to George and Caroline (Koopman) Witmer. She graduated from Wayne High School in 1956 and attended Wayne State College. Sandra married Don V. Schulz on August 22, 1958, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. Don and Sandra met in 9th grade and were high school sweethearts at Wayne High School. They married when Don had one year left in the Navy and were stationed in San Diego, California, until Don was discharged. Sandra worked at the telephone company as a switchboard operator. Later, she stayed home and raised Tammie Rose, Angela Caroline, and Jason Harry. Sandra was a receptionist at KTCH Radio. She then became a receptionist at MG Waldbaum and later transferred to Wayne to become a commodity grain broker for Wayne Grain and Feed, where she retired, but worked part time. Through the years, she took care of the farm and raised chickens, ducks, hogs, sheep, and even raised a purebred Red Angus herd. Sandra especially adored her cats and enjoyed raising many litters of kittens. She cherished the outdoors and living on the farm and growing many beautiful varieties of flowers. Sandra surrounded herself with the color purple. She was an avid book reader. She was an excellent cook and baker and in her later years, quilting became her passion. She made quilts for her family members, including all of her nieces and nephews and for many friends. She treasured her time with Don and her children and loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed attending their sporting events. Sandra was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, active in 4-H, and a founder of Earn and Learn Investment Club.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Don; children, Tammie Rose (Paul) Phillips and Angela Caroline (Todd) Pfeiffer all of Omaha and Jason Harry (Vickie) Schulz of Wayne; grandchildren, Delanie Rose Phillips of Kearney, Harrison Foster Phillips of Stanford, CA, Cassandra Marie Pfeiffer of Omaha, Nick Rauner of Sioux City, IA, and Rachel Rauner of Wayne; sisters, Marcia (Darcell) Adams of Iowa City, IA, and Penny (Rick) Urwiler of Lincoln; brother-in-law Vern (Delores) Schulz of Wayne; 10 nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and nephews; five great-great-nieces and nephews, several cousins, and Aunt Mickey Ellyson of Pender.
