Marcus M. Carson, aged 2 years, a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Carson of Preston avenue, died Monday afternoon from burns sustained by falling into a barrel of scalding water the Saturday previous.

The parents of the child live at 240 Preston avenue, adjacent to the Shennango tin mill. A barrel is sunk in the ground near the dwelling and collects the hot water from an exhaust pipe from the tin mill. The family are in the habit of using the water for household purposes and are careful to keep the receptacle covered to prevent a possible accident.

Saturday the little boy was playing near the barrel and enjoying himself with a stick of candy. He dropped the covered sweet and in hunting for it, lifted the cover off the barrel, thinking in his childish ignorance that the candy might have fallen in the water. Being such a very little fellow he toppled into the almost boiling water. His piercing cries brought immediate Recovery and the child was tenderly carried into the house and a physician summoned.

The dripping clothes were torn from the body but they had been on long enough to fatally burn the child. The parts of the little form which had been covered with clothing were horribly burned and the attending physician could give the family very little hope of it's reeovery. It lingered until Monday afternoon, a period of about 48 hours, when death ensued. Fortunately the child was unconscious all of the time and thus relieved from the awful suffering.

The bereaved parents have three other children, a son and two daughters.

Funeral services from residence of the parents Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. Interment at Greenwood cemetery.

Carriages from Dunn and Rice's.
