New Ulm Review December 13, 1911

It became our painful duty this week to chronicle the sad death of Mrs. Julius Berndt Jr. nee' Alice Baumann which occurred at her home on South Minnesota Street Thursday morning at 5 o'clock, after a brief illness. Death was due to scarlet fever. A little son was born to her just a week before her demise and in her weakened condition she was unable to withstand the attacks of this virulent disease.

The deceased was born in Mankato, December 5, 1886 and was consequently only 24 years old when she answered Death’s summons. She was united in marriage to our respected fellow-citizen Julius Berndt Jr. at Mankato December 5, 1907 and has made New Ulm her home ever since. Three children were born to them, one of whom died last year.

The deceased was a good woman, quiet and unobtrusive in her ways, a dutiful wife, and kind and loving mother ever ready to be of service to those who were dependent on her. Through her admirable traits of character she won the esteem and friendship of those who learned to know her.

On account of the illness which caused her death, the funeral which was held Friday evening was strictly private, only the relatives assembling at the City Cemetery where interment was made. Capt. Albert Steinhauser delivered the funeral address.

She is survived by her grief-stricken husband, her two infant children, her parents and her sisters and brother. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Baumann, her aunt, Mrs. Postel and her brother-in-law, Robert Berndt of Mankato were present at the funeral.
