Lola Koester
MATTOON – Lola Koester, 94, of Mattoon, died at 12:55 p.m. Friday (Sept. 12, 2003) at Heartland Christian Village, Neoga.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Markwell Funeral Home in Casey with Pastor Bruce Osborne and Pastor Del Nack officiating. Burial will be in Casey-Cumberland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 6, 1908 in Greenup, the daughter of Ross and Jenny (Strader) Floyd. She married William F. Koester in Martinsville on Oct. 8, 1932. He died on Feb. 5, 1998.
Surviving are one daughter, Helen Marie Smock and husband Rex of Mattoon; two sons, John Ross Koester and wife Anna of Charleston and William Glen Koester and wife Rena of Paris; one brother, Clifford "Jack" Floyd and wife Betty of Mattoon; two sister-in-laws, Irene Floyd of Casey and Marj Floyd of Mattoon; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Sam, Russell and Roscoe "Jim" Floyd; and two sisters, Ethel Floyd and Opal Weaver.
Mrs. Koester was a cook and a homemaker. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mattoon and a charter member of Casey Trinity Lutheran Church and the Round Grove Community Club.
