Robert J. Dolezal, 94, of Carroll, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.
The celebrant will be Father Laurence Burns, assisted by Deacon Robert S. Bruner, who will deliver the homily. Lectors will be Sara and Timothy Dolezal. Gift bearers will be Sara, Kathleen and Timothy Dolezal.
Casket bearers will be John Norgaard, Dennis Anderson, James Wilson, Dr. Robert Langenfeld, Patrick Moehn and Gene Vincent.
Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation began at 2:30 pm. today, Tuesday, Dec. 22 at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and there will be a Christian wake service by the parish at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be left at the funeral home for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Born Sept. 4, 1904, in San Pierre, Ind., he was a son of John and Anna (Shedrsay) Dolezal. He spent his younger years in Indiana and graduated from San Pierre High School in 1922. He then attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1926.
He lived in Chicago, Ill., until 1934, when he moved to Carroll and established the Dolezal Insurance Agency, which is now Mid-Iowa Insurance Associates and still operated by the family. He also was involved with several other business enterprises in the Carroll area.
Mr. Dolezal married Kathryn Louise Pielsicker on Nov. 18, 1937, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and the Parish Men’s Club, and he was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was active in many civic and charitable organizations in the Carroll area.
His hobbies included rose gardening and collecting antique cast-iron mechanical banks.
Mr. Dolezal is survived by his children, John R. Dolezal and his wife, Claudia, of Carroll, Thomas W. Dolezal and his wife, Trudy, of West Yellowstone, Mont., and Ann M. McGovern and her husband, John, of Evergreen, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Robert Dolezal, Jennifer Baker, Sara Dolezal, Kathleen Dolezal, Timothy Dolezal, Erin McGovern, Mark McGovern and Mike McGovern; and a great grandson, Andrei Dolezal.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise Dolezal, in October 1995; three half-brothers, Henry, Otto and John; and four half-sisters, Josephine, Rose, Bess and Helen.
