Betty Shoup was born Nov. 25, 1928, in South Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Carrie Geiger Shoup. She graduated from Amana Schools in 1947, then attended the University of Iowa, where she earned her degree in psychology and sociology. She married William Waters on Feb. 10, 1951, and later divorced.
Betty was a talented homemaker, incredible seamstress and loving mother. She worked for Dickinson County Department of Human Services for 26 years as a social worker, eventually becoming director. In her retirement, she worked at Amana Heritage Society Museum for 10 years.
Betty was a member of the Amana Heritage Society and Amana Arts Guild. She enjoyed being outside with her flowers, was a world traveler, and was a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all, Betty loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Shirley Reihman; and a son-in-law, Mike Kajewski.
