Obituary

Ploetz, Gladys (Koehler)

Gladys Ploetz passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Nesbit Living and Rehabilitation in Seguin at the age of87. She was born in Guadalupe County on July 28, 1928 to Herbert H. and Anita A. (Alves) Koehler. Gladys was a hard worker her whole life. She was a life member of Friedens Church of Christ, marrying and raising her family in the church. Her passion was the San Antonio Spurs. She would never miss a game, had her own names for all of the players and would often have to be checked upon after the game because she would get so excited.

Friends and family are invited for calling hours on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Goetz Funeral Home, 713 N. Austin St. Seguin. Gladys's funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Friedens Church of Christ, 2555 Friedens Church Rd. Seguin, TX. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park 2951 State Hwy 46 South in New Braunfels, Texas with a reception following at Friedens Church of Christ. Services officiated by Pastors Sonja and David Phillips.

Gladys grew up in Geronimo Creek. She attended Navarro for 11 years, often riding on horseback to and from school. She graduated from Seguin because at her time of graduation, Navarro didn't have a twelfth grade. Gladys married Ernst Ploetz in 1951 at Friedens Church of Christ and together they raised their family in the Geronimo, Seguin area. She worked as secretary to the Superintendent of the Navarro Independent School District for 22 years from which she retired. She was so dedicated to her job that she only missed one day of work over her 22 year career. Gladys was tenacious. She was a breast cancer survivor, loved to bowl with the Laubach bowling club and enjoyed shopping, Especially at Hobby Lobby. She cooked constantly, loved to bake, travel, garden, can, play dominos and eat. When her children were young, she would hunt and fish with them, although hunting usually involved her staying in the blind at their deer lease. She was dedicated to her family and will be dearly missed. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Ernst in 1998 and her son Brian in 2008.

Gladys is survived by her sons: Scott Ploetz and his wife Malia; Reagan Ploetz and his wife Karen; her daughter-in-law Karen Ploetz, her grandchildren: Jordan Ploetz and her fiancé Nicholas Stubblefield; Rebecca Johnson and her husband Steve; Kara Ploetz; Sara Ploetz; Londa Ploetz; Kolin Ploetz and Kaitlyn Ploetz.
