Sister Sylvester, O.P, lived 59 years as a Dominican sister having entered the Order in 1930 from Lott, TX. During a lengthy teaching career, she taught in Galveston, Houston, California and Beaumont dioceses. She was principal at Assumption and Christ the King schools in Houston. She also served one year at Bishop Nold's residence. Born Agnes Niekamp, she is the daughter of the late Herman Niekamp and Mary Meyer of Lott. She had five brothers: Edmund, Walter, Anton, Henry and Leonard. An Aunt, Sister Dominica, was also a Dominican sister and an Uncle, Otto Niekamp, was a Catholic priest.
