Leonard Herman Niekamp died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at age 86. He was born February 12, 1929 near Lott TX to Herman and Mary (Meyer) Niekamp.

Leonard married Mary Ann Zavodny on November 15, 1952. He proudly served in the U.S. Army; he was a Korean War Veteran, a member of American Legion Post 133 and VFW Post 1820. He was a Temple, TX Police Officer from 1954-1974. He then worked for Wilsonart as a metal machinist foreman and retired in 1992. He was a parishioner of St. Luke's Catholic Church for 45 years. He loved working on anything mechanical and enjoyed vacationing with family on the Texas coast.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Ann, four brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann of Temple, his son Steven Niekamp and wife Brenda of Frisco, TX, his three grandchildren Veronica, Kristen and Kirk all of Frisco and his brother-in-law Edward Zavodny of Zabcikville.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Temple with Father James Ekeocha celebrant. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, TX. Visitation was held from 6-8:00PM Friday evening, February 12, at Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple with a Rosary at 7:00PM.
