Eileen was born January 23, 1936, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Catherine (Brown) Smith. She graduated from St. Columbkilles High School in Dubuque with the class of 1954.
She loved to play the piano, read, and flower gardening. She was also a political junkie. Her most valued time was spent with her family and grandchildren. Eileen was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where she taught CCD, was involved with RCIA and was a lay distributer. She also volunteered for Mercy Medical Center for many years.
Eileen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a resilient, quick-witted and fun loving woman with a great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Patrick Ochs, son Dennis Ochs, grandson Samuel Ochs, brother Maurice Smith, sister Maurine Kloft, aunt Helen Brown, and second husband Kenneth Binger.
Left to cherish Eileen’s memory are her children Terri (Gary) Liedtke of Cedar Rapids, Tim (Judy) Ochs of Cedar Rapids, Andrea Ochs of Cedar Rapids, Mary Ann (Bill) Nielsen of Deerfield, Illinois, and Carl Ochs with whom she made her home. A brother Marc (Gail) Smith of Dubuque, grandchildren Eric(Danielle) Liedtke, Jason (Jennifer) Liedtke Kory (Tessa) Ochs, Rachel (Matt) Reimers, Cassie Ochs, Tim Liedtke, Fred (Caitlin) Ochs, Patricia Ochs, Keagan Ochs, Annie and Abbie Nielsen, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church with a visitation one hour prior. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 2 to 5 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a prayer vigil starting at 1:30.
Memorials may be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
