A resident of Almaden Valley and long-time Willow Glen business owner, Bill Shaheen has been a distinguished presence in San Jose since 1963.

Bill was born in Jaffa, Palestine, the first child of his beloved parents Mahfouz and Yasmine Shaheen of Ein Arik, Palestine. His family immigrated to the United States in 1950, settling in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Growing up in Pittsburgh, Bill attended St. Peter's Catholic School and was an altar server. He went on to North Catholic High School in North Side Pittsburgh and played football, coached by Dan Rooney (former owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers). He was a huge Steelers and Pittsburgh sports fan and remained loyal even after his family migrated to San Jose in 1963.

Bill graduated from Leigh High School in San Jose and attended Cal State Hayward. He worked at his father's grocery store, Fairmart Market, on Bird Avenue, during his years in school. Bill and his wife, Vicky, were married in August of 1971 at Sacred Heart Church in San Jose and he and his family have been long time parishioners at St. Christopher Church. He eventually went on to own the infamous Willow Glen institution, Willow Glen Liquors and Wine Shop. Bill was a fixture on the corner of Lincoln and Willow for over 25 years.

After selling his business, Bill kept busy as a successful Bay Area property owner and manager. Through the years, Bill's dedication to and love for his wife and three daughters were apparent to everyone. Bill had a passion for world travel, trips to the wine country, classic rock, live music, discussing politics and current events, reading a variety of news sources, walking the Almaden Lake trail and Lincoln Avenue, showing off photos of his four grandsons, and a good glass of red wine. He enjoyed the company of many social groups and friends: morning coffee club on Lincoln Ave., Tuesday nights at Giorgio's, monthly wine club at Tomato Thyme, monthly high school friend gatherings, a retired old men's club called the Romeo's, and the San Jose Eagles on Lincoln Ave.

Bill passed away on September 15, 2015 after several years of heart complications and a sudden decline, following three consecutive open-heart surgeries.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vicky; three devoted daughters: Andrea, Nicole and Jaclyn; three sons-in-law: Greg Sehestedt, Jens Tutzauer and Andrew Watson; and four grandsons: William, Nikolaus, Noah and Jaxon. He is also survived by his three brothers and their families: Joe (Rima), John and Issa; and his mother-in-law Jamileh, his uncle Paul Shahin (Kay), his uncle John Shahin (Nora), his aunt Mary David (David) of New Jersey, and many other extended family members. He will be missed dearly by all of who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass and Burial, followed by a Celebration of Bill's life on Saturday, September 19, 2015 (Bill's birthday). The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher Church in San Jose (1576 Curtner Ave., San Jose) and will begin at 11:30A.M. The burial will take place at the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery following the Mass. The reception, immediately following the burial, will be held at the Santa Clara Marriot Hotel at 3:30P.M. Bill's family respectfully requests flowers not be sent. Contributions in his memory to the Stanford Medical Center, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine preferred.
