NEW ULM REVIEW

WALTER OTTO KOESTER

The untimely death of a well known local young man brought sadness to New Ulm Christmas morning when Walter O. Koester, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Koester of this city passed away at the Union hospital following an operation performed almost a week ago for a rupture at which time the appendix was also taken. His condition seemed to be improving when peritonitis set in and on Monday complications developed. A second operation was performed Tuesday night in an attempt to save his life, but he passed away at 12:10 o'clock.

Walter Otto Koester was born in this city July 3, 1898 and was thus past 32 years of age. He grew to manhood here and attended the local school after which he took a position in the Eagle Roller Mill offices in the auditing department where he had been employed for 17 years.

He was married on August 8th, this year, to Miss Emma Braunreiter of this city, who survives to mourn his sudden death. He is also mourned by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Koester, one brother, Alfred Koesters of St. Cloud, and two sisters, Mrs. Wallace Anderson of Mankato and Mrs. Gail Rinehart of this city.

Funeral services were held from the Koester home on North Payne street Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and from the Friedens's Ev. Church in this city immediately thereafter, Rev. F. R. Iseli officiating. Interment was made in the City cemetery.

Mr. Koester was a member of the local Masonic order as well as being an active worker in the local chapter of the Izaak Walton League, serving as treasurer since the chapter was organized April 21, 1927. He was also a member in the New Ulm Turnverein.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Koester of St. Cloud and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Anderson of Mankato were among the relatives who attended the last rites.
