Lorlene Edna Patterson, age 91, peacefully passed away at 11:11AM on March 16, 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by members of her loving family and caregiver. She was a devoted daughter, caring sister, faithful wife, dedicated daughter-in-love, loving mother, gracious grandmother, precious Aunt "Pat," and child of God. Lorlene was born on her parents' farm near Garber, Oklahoma on July 15, 1924, the second child to Emil Theodor and Katherine Elisabeth (Schmunk) Evers.
She grew up on that same farm with her parents and, eventually, six siblings during the Depression and Dust Bowl, attending the one-room Home Valley School and then Garber High School. After graduating from high school, she moved to Enid to work "in town" for a short period. When her mother was expecting sibling number six, she returned home to help deliver and care for the baby and look after her brothers and sisters.
While walking in the park one Sunday afternoon, she met the love of her life, "soldier boy" Harry Earl Patterson, Sr. and married him while he was on leave on July 26, 1945. During their 44 years together, they built a successful family business, raised three children, enjoying being active members of the Church of Christ in South Oklahoma City and giving generously to several mission efforts. Although she kept busy, she always made time in her schedule and her heart to help anyone regardless of her other obligations. As a devoted Shepherd's wife, she had a passion for the Bus Ministry, Meals on Wheels, and caring for and bringing a meal to those who were sick or bereaved.
Many of her family members have fond memories of her as an "Avon Lady." It was her great joy to give all close and extended family members their annual Avon Christmas gift, a physical expression of her incredibly generous spirit. She had become an Avon Lady as a way to always have a gift to give as well as a means to get to know her neighbors. She was known as a hospitable and loving neighbor and it was a common sight to see one of her neighbors occupying her lake-view swing behind her home or running for cover to her storm shelter where all were welcome. She loved sitting around her "round table" with her family, neighbors and friends and was committed to reading the Daily Oklahoman from front to back every day so she could make it to the funnies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry E. Patterson, Sr.; brother George Evers; sisters Dorothy Masterson and Berneice Karner; and great-granddaughter Adley. Survivors include her children Harry E. Patterson, Jr. and wife Brenda, Debra Cotton and husband Charlie, Susie Jackson, Mark Jackson; brothers Harold Evers, Lloyd Evers and Paul Evers; brothers-in-law J.R. Patterson and Harold Karner; sister-in-law Wynefred Patterson; grandchildren Anthony, Adam, Ashley, Alyssa, Katherine, John Paul, Joel, and Royce; great-grandchildren Zane, Maddox, Cash, Chaley, Evelyn and expecting two more; and a host of other relatives, friends, church family and her precious caregivers Pat Bergeron, Mirana Ramos and Lucy Juru.
