He was born in Vancouver, Washington, near his family home in Homan, Washington. His early years were spent in Portland, Oregon, where he, his parents (Gurine Edland and George Finstead (born Jørgen Nikolai Hansen) and 4 siblings lived together. His father left home when Theron was about 11. He attended technical schools and began work at the FMC corporation where he worked himself into a career as a mechanical engineer despite no college education. He was in the army in Louisiana, then returned to FMC and was transferred to San Jose, California where he he met Betty White who became his wife. They had 2 children, Bruce and Robert as well as 2 grandchildren, Jamie and Cori. Cori married Jordan Karp and gave Betty and Theron 2 great grandchildren, Brennan and Everett. Theron ultimately retired from FMC and he and Betty moved to Alhambra, California to be closer to the grandchildren. Betty died of duodenal cancer, then Theron died of multiple strokes and heart disease.
