Henry is buried in what is known as the Peninger Cemetery and was located south of Franklin on the John Harman farm. His headstone states "Henry Peninger-Virginia-Pvt.Augusta Military-Revolutionary War 1815".

The John Harman farm is located 2 miles east of Franklin, Pendleton County, West Virginia, on Rt. 220. Henry Peninger is buried on this farm but in 1985 a flood occurred and totally wiped away the few graves that were located in the cemetary. Henry's marker was heavy and had not washed away. In 1995 it was resting against a split rail fence close to the back door of the Harman farm. The marker can be easily seen on the opposite side of the fence that separates their long paved driveway from a large rock strewn field to the right of their home. The driveway turns at the back of the house to allow the driver to traverse the back of the house to a nice large double garage. At the point where the driveway turns to go across the back yard, the marker can be seen facing away from the house. The Harmans cannot recall specifically where the graves had been located, although it was not too far from the house and apparently closer to the river that runs past about 300 yards away.It is thought that perhaps the Peninger house could have been located where the current front yard is now located. There is an oak tree in the yard and it has been noticed that the soil there has always been different than the rest of the surrounding area. Henry's marker was placed by George W. Cleek of Warm Springs, VA. He applied for it on 20 Aug 1932 and it was shipped to him on 12 Jan 1933. It appears that he drove it to Franklin, WV and set the stone himself. As of 4/1/2016, the marker is still in the same location.
