Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main Street, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
Estelle taught elementary school in rural Dubuque prior to her marriage.
She was born on Dec. 8, 1914, in Bernard, Iowa, daughter of William J. and Mary (Eichhorn) Melloy. She married Connie Shanahan June 14, 1938, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fillmore; he preceded her in death on April 30, 1998.
Estelle graduated from an area high school. She was a member of St. Raphael Parish.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had only fond memories to tell of raising her 13 children. She enjoyed playing euchre with her friends and sharpening her skills at the game with her family.
Surviving are her children, Jerry (Marilyn) Shanahan and Tom (Mary) Shanahan, both of Dubuque, Neil Shanahan, of Bettendorf, Iowa, Jim (Connie) Shanahan, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Marie Shanahan, of Littleton, Colo., Richard (Shelley) Shanahan, of Springville, Iowa, Phil Shanahan, of Maquoketa, Iowa, Bill (Maureen) Shanahan, of Swisher, Iowa, Barb (Randy) McPhail, and Joanne (Evan) Carruthers, both of Grand Junction, Colo., and Debbi Gaschler, of Lakewood, Colo.; 25 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Suzanne; a son, Steve; three sisters, Melitta Otting, Monica Gehl, and Catherine Donovan; and two brothers, William and Thomas Melloy.
