Ernest immigrated as a young man to the U.S. about 1889, and by 1900 he was living in Montana. In 1905 he moved from North Dakota to Alberta, buying C.P.R. land near Millet, to farm. Ernest married Minnie Fitz in 1906, and they had a family of four; David, Louis, Arthur and Alice. Ernest tragically passed away in 1916, at the young age of 48.

The death occurred at Millet on Friday last of Ernest Affolter, aged 48 years, the cause of death being tuberculosis. The deceased was born in Switzerland, and had resided in this country about eleven years. The interment took place in the Weisenthal cemetery near Millet on Sunday. Deceased leaves to mourn his loss a wife an three children.
