Irene Caroline (Wageman) Albrecht, 91, of Emerson, Nebraska passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson; Pastor Gretchen Ritola and Vicar Rebecca Truland will be officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Emerson.

Irene was born on the family farm near Pender, NE on April 2, 1925, the daughter of Karl (Charlie) and Sophie (Koopman) Wageman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church west of Pender. She attended Pender Public Schools. On June 27, 1943, Irene was united in marriage to George H. Albrecht at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. To this union was born five children. The couple farmed in Thurston County until 2011. In 2011, Irene moved to Heritage of Emerson, the same year her husband George passed away. Irene was a busy farm wife, who worked in the fields, helped with the livestock while cooking, sewing and canning garden produce. She had a beautiful flower garden and brought many of them to Heritage of Emerson.

Irene blessed her family with her strong Christian faith. She taught Sunday School at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson, where she was active in various groups. She was a lifelong member of the Happy Hour Extension Club, served on the Perry Township election board, and for many years working with the US Weather Service.

She is survived by her children: George L. (Barbara) Albrecht of Thurston, NE; Don (Merlyce)Albrecht of Waverly, NE; Galen (Donette)Albrecht of Fremont, NE; Carol McMorris–Smith (Mark) of Omaha, NE; Lori (Rod) MacPherson of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: David (Trish) Albrecht, Jennifer (Ron) Albrecht - Guay, Karen (Mark) Hauser, Elizabeth (Charles) Oliver, Rebecca Albrecht, and Rorie MacPherson, and great grandchildren: Lauren Albrecht, Autumn Hauser, Ethan Albrecht, and Grant Hauser. She is also survived by her brother Lloyd (Carol) Wageman of Pender, NE and a sister-in-law Phyllis Wageman of Emerson, NE.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, sisters Mary Ann (Elmer) Bottger and Helen (Allen) Olson, and a brother Charles Wageman.
