Sarah was the daughter of Joshua and Mary Whitaker. Joshua Whitaker was also a Revolutionary War Veteran.

Served in Rutherford's Expedition against the Cherokee Indians, in Linclon's campaign against the British in South Carolina, in the battle of Stono and frequent skirmishs of this campaign March 4, 1831. Allowed an annual pension of $31.33
