Joh Lutjen Camp was born in Oldeborg, Germany on Oct. 29, 1885, the son of Lutjen and Tetje (Schoolman) Camp. In 1912 he came to the United States to Iowa and he moved to the Tea vicinity in 1913.
He returned to Germany where he married Hilke Frerichs on Aug. 19, 1922 at Victorburg, Germany.
Following their marriage they came to Tea, SD. In 1940 they moved to a farm west of Lennox and moved into Lennox in 1962. His wife preceded him in death on Jun. 25, 1980.
He continued to live in Lennox until 1991 when he stayed with his daughter, Christine, for eight months. He then became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on Jan. 9, 1992.
John was an active and faithful member of Turner County First Presbyterian Church of rural Davis. As a child he had committed to memory over 100 Psalms and Songs which he retained his entire life. He was a master carpenter and contractor, having built many houses and farm buildings.
Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son, Henry Camp, on Oct. 24, 1948; plus ten brothers and sisters.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son , Ludwig Camp of Harrisburg; his daughter, Mrs. Harold (Christine) Klock of Chancellor; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs Edena Hoffman of Lennox.
