Walter H. Sievert, age 88, of 4102 Rock Street, Manitowoc, died in the LORD on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center of Manitowoc.

Walter was born on December 23, 1927, in Watertown, SD, son of the late Karl G. and Bertha (Gehrke) Sievert. He was received into the LORD's kingdom by the rite of baptism on January 15, 1928 at Emmanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, in Grover, SD. He later confessed his faith by the rite of confirmation on April 6, 1941 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Mobridge, SD. He attended the Mobridge schools and was graduated from Northwestern Lutheran Academy in 1945. After graduating from high school he attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN.

After graduation from Dr. Martin Luther College he came to Manitowoc and taught grades 6 and 7 at First German Ev. Lutheran School. Later he taught grade 8 and served as a principal of the school until his retirement from teaching in 1997. During that time, he also served as a choir director and church organist. After retiring from teaching he worked several years for Advanced Corrosion Control Technologies of Kenosha.

On August 8, 1953 he was married to Patricia M. Schwalbe at First German Ev. Lutheran Church. They celebrated their golden wedding in 2003. This marriage was blessed with four children. He is survived by three sons and a daughter and their spouses: namely, Dr. Michael (Michele) Sievert of Albuquerque, NM; Timothy (Patricia A.) Sievert of Kenosha; Greg Sievert of Manitowoc; and Suzanne (Craig) Schafer of Wausau. He is further survived by ten grandchildren: Benjamin and Samuel Sievert of Albuquerque, NM; Samantha and Michael Sievert of Kenosha; Christina Sievert of Atlanta, GA; Amanda Sievert of Manitowoc; Ryan (Kristin) Schafer of Virginia Beach, VA; Matthew (Amanda) Schafer, Nicholas (Melissa) Schafer, and C.J. Schafer all of Wausau; as well as eight great-grandchildren: Derek, Tanner and Analise Harbeson and Rylan Schafer all of Virginia Beach, VA; Levi and Nolan Schafer of Wausau; Jackson and Jameson Schafer of Wausau; one brother: Arthur Sievert of Bismarck, ND; two sisters-in-law: Lucille Sievert of Ponca City, OK; Beverly Sievert of Sioux Falls, SD; and one brother-in-law: Elmer (Haytchen) Neumann of Albuquerque, NM, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia on February 17, 2006; his parents: Karl & Bertha (Gehrke) Sievert; his parents-in-law: Rene & Viola (Marquardt) Schwalbe; two brothers: John Sievert of Ponca City, OK; and Richard Sievert of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister: Norma Neumann of Albuquerque, NM; a granddaughter: Elizabeth Sievert of Manitowoc; a daughter-in-law: Mary (Quistorf) Sievert of Manitowoc; brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Rene & Kathleen (Fitzgerald) Schwalbe of Two Rivers; sister-in-law: Mabel Sievert of Bismarck, ND and a nephew: Jeffrey Schwalbe of Two Rivers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Louis Sievert will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 South 8th Street, Manitowoc on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials would be appreciated for the tuition assistance endowment fund of Manitowoc Lutheran High School, 4045 Lancer Circle, Manitowoc, WI 54220, the L.C.
