Christina was the daughter of James Hunter (c1789-1868) and Catherine (c1800-1870), who are buried in Pilot Grove Cemetery, Faribault County, Minnesota. She was the sister of William Hunter of Pilot Grove, Faribault County and the sister of Ann Hunter who married Archibald Cardle, also of Pilot Grove.

Christina Hunter married John C. Cardle circa 1857. They were the parents of Melissa Cardle (b. circa 1859) m. Fred Horey, Archibald Cardle (b. circa 1861), Grace Cardle (b. circa 1862) m. Homer Wescott, James Cardle (b. circa 1864), Margaret Cardle (b. circa 1867) m. Joseph Spiel, John C. Cardle (b. circa 1869), Alexander Cardle (b. 1 Jan 1872) who married Bernice Whitfield, Angus Cardle (b. circa 1874), William Cardle (b. circa 1878), Ernest Cardle (b. 1880) and Irene Eva Cardle (b. circa 1886) m. Robert Gourley.
