Margaretha Schmitz, nee Jost, died at 4 o'clock Friday morning at her home, 403 East Main street, aged 83 years. Deceased was born in Germany August 18, 1818 [NOTE: grave marker shows 1820].
She was married in Germany to Franz Demmerle and emigrated with him to America, direct to Belleville, in 1845. Her husband died shortly after their arrival here [his will states he died Sept. 7, 1865].
A few years later in 1869 she married Franz Stoltz and he died in 1871.
She married a third time in 1880 to Peter Schmitz, who preceded her to the grave on October 24, 1900. She leaves a number of step-children and several grandchildren.
The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at 1:30 to St. Peter's Cathedral and Walnut Hill cemetery.
