Thomas R. Lilienthal, 71, of rural Wilton, died Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Premier Estates in Muscatine, after a lengthy battle with renal cancer.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant. Memorial donations may be made to Durant American Legion, Tri-County Museum or Lioness Park, in his memory.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 21, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa, with Military Honors presented by the Durant American Legion Post #430.

Thomas Ray Lilienthal was born January 7, 1945, in Davenport, the son of Lawrence and Beatrice (Bockwoldt) Lilienthal. He graduated from the Durant High School in 1963 and attended the University of Iowa. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Sally Jo Sievers on August 18, 1978, in Davenport. He farmed in Cedar County and was a rural mail carrier, retiring in 2012. He was a member of the Durant American Legion Post #430, the Durant VFW, the Rural Mail Carriers Association and the Stockton Coop, where he served on the board of directors.

He is survived by his wife, Sally of Wilton; two daughters, Abby (Derek) Burke of Muscatine, and Kate (Chris) Anderson of Pewaukee, WI; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Vonnie (Harvey) Dittmer and Vicki Meyer, both of Durant, and Peggy (Richard) Timm of Tipton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Megan Lilienthal and three brother-in-laws, Loren Cole, Richard Voss and Loren Meyer.
