Helena "Lena" née Reeh Bode Schmidt Leitner. She immigrated with her father & siblings about 1856, the family settling in Plato, IL. On May 31st, 1863 (Kane Co., IL) she married #1 her brother-in-law Rudolph (Randolph) Bode who had recently been widowed by the death of his first wife Elizabeth, Lena's sister, & was the father of one child: Louis. Lena & Rudolph had nine children of their own: Adam, Katherine "Kate", Jacob "Jack", Anna, Elizabeth "Lizzie", Augusta, Lena, Charles & George. The 1880 Plato census (Randolph Bode) shows the entire family excluding George who was born the following year.

The passing of her husband Rudolph in 1881 left Lena a pregnant widow with many small children (son George was born a month after Rudolph's death). On November 30th, 1882, Kane Co., IL she married #2 Phillip Schmidt (of whom little but the marriage record is known). (Presumably) after Phillip's death, she married for a third time to #3 the widower George Leitner, who had previously been married to Louisa Widmeyer (spelled variously), with whom he had had many children. Lena & George were wed on July 7th, 1898, Kane Co., IL. The 1900 Elgin, IL census lists her as Lana Leitner & confusingly lshows her as the mother of 8 living children out of eight. (Adam does list Helena as his mother & his birth date, as recorded on his tombstone, clearly makes him her child).

Of her children:
1). Adam (1864-1948 FL) m. Belle Bateman on May 11th, 1887, Kane Co., IL (Note: there are two FAG memorials for Adam. One (#91167450) is in Bluff Cemetery, Elgin, IL where his wife is buried but which does not include his death date. The second (#12170949, which includes full birth & death dates) is in Florida where his body is actually buried).
2). Katherine "Kate" (1865-1958, #98629389) m. Fred T Roberts on April 18th, 1887, Kane Co., IL
3). Jacob (1866-1945, #98700687) m. Emma Ruch in 1896, Walworth Co., WI
4). Anna (1870-1955, #113742730) m. John Giertz on November 10th, 1892, Kane Co., IL
5). Elizabeth (1872-1943, #159346475) m. James Lewis
6). Augusta (1874- ?, at least 1930 McHenry Co., IL) m. Alby Udel on November 23rd, 1899
7). Lena (1875-1947, #109515599) m. W C a Smith on April 17th, 1907, Kane Co., IL
8). Charles A (1878-1953, #98700585) m. Jessie I Collins on June 6th, 1900, Kane Co., IL
9). George (20 July 1881- 1 Nov 1947, #75061214) m. Belle Cooper. Note: his marker incorrectly lists 1882-1947.

Note: the Bode/Reeh graves lie in a row (L-R); a monument for Jacob Bode, Marguerite Bode (his wife), Adam Bode (their son) & Elizabeth Bode (mother of Jacob & Rudolph); a badly damaged marker (probably the original stone for mother Elizabeth); an even more badly damaged marker (probably the original stone for Elizabeth née Reeh Bode, first wife of Rudolph); Elizabeth née Reeh Bode, first wife of Rudolph (replacement marker which matches that of sister Lena, incorrect YOB); Kasper Reeh; Rudolph Bode (brother of Jacob, husband of sisters Elizabeth & Lena née Reeh); Helena "Lena" née Reeh Bode Schmidt Leitner (name on stone is Helena Bode Leitner).
