Father of modern skiing. He introduced the Arlberg skiing technique and helped popularize the sport. After his arrest by the Nazis in 1937, he moved to Vermont and established a ski school in North Conway. During World War II he helped train the Army's 10th Mountain Division. The annual Hannes Schneider Meister Cup Race at Cranmore Mountain is held in his honor.
