Samuel Wood was born 27th December 1801 in Virginia; emigrated to Ohio in 1816, married in 1824, at which time he settled about 6 miles west of Zanesville, Ohio. He moved to Hardin Co, Ohio, four miles northwest of Ada, Ohio, in September 1851. He served as County Commissioner 12 years and died in 1873. (Taken in part from J.J. Wood's biographical sketch)

Samuel Wood bought 80 acres of government land 20 April 1837 in Muskingum Co, Ohio,a land document signed by Martin Van Buren. It appears that the Samuel Wood family migrated from Muskingum to Hardin County about the same time as the Turners, and also settled in Liberty Township. David, his son, lived for many years one mile west of Ada on what is now Rt 81. This property is still occupied by a great grandon. James served as Probate Judge of Hardin Co.

Isaac B. Turner purchased land near Forest, Ohio, but later traded it for 80 (or 160) acres on the north side of the Sandusky Road two miles north and one and one-half miles west of Ada. This trade was made with his father-in-law, Samuel Wood, who owned the square-mile of which this tract was a part.
