Orchard – Dennis D. Von Seggern, 78, of Orchard was called to heaven Thursday, September, 1, 2016.

Dennis was born May 4, 1938 in West Point, Nebraska to Arthur and Ella (Wobken) Von Seggern. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Cuming Co. Line Church). The family moved to Venus, Nebraska in 1941. In May of 1950, Dennis graduated 8th grade from Venus District 44. In January of 1952, Dennis was confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Venus, Nebraska. He attended Creighton Community High School and graduated in 1954. After high school, Dennis attended Wayne State College and studied accounting. Dennis came back to Venus to work in the store, waited on customers, helped his father with trucking and everyday chores in the farming operation of cattle and crops.

From 1958-1960 Dennis served in the U.S. Army Infantry and was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado and Ft. Lewis, Washington. Dennis returned to Venus and continued to farm with his Dad and brother Burnell until 1964. On June 7, 1964, Dennis married Irene A. Hansen at Niobrara Lutheran Church, Niobrara, Nebraska. Dennis and Irene were blessed with four children, Eric, Warren, Regina and Drew. They lived northeast of Creighton until 1997 when they moved to Orchard, Nebraska. Dennis continued farming with his son, Warren, by Venus and son, Eric, by Verdel. Irene passed away February 2001.

Dennis had a tremendous love for music. He, along with his dad, brother Burnell and other friends started a Dance Band (Von’s Merry Men) and played for many dances in the area until 1985. He never learned how to read music notes but listened to music on the radio and learned to play the songs by ear. Dennis was always an active member at Church (Christ Lutheran Bazille Mills and St. Paul’s Lutheran Venus), and served on many Boards and led Bible classes. He also enjoyed singing with fellow family members, friends and neighbors in the Verdigre Men’s Chorus.

In November, 2004, Dennis was married to Marlene (Schroeder) Hoffman at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield, Nebraska. Dennis and Marlene enjoyed dancing, which took them on numerous traveling destinations. Marlene passed away November 2015. He was a wonderful grandpa and attended Christmas programs, band concerts, dance recitals, and sporting events. Dennis is survived by son Eric (Lottie) of Verdel, son Warren of Orchard, daughter Regina Engelhard (John) of Cortland, son Drew (Karla) of Gretna.
