CREIGHTON - Services for Joanne H. Falter, 80, of Creighton will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. Jacqueline Samway will officiate, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton.

She died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Joanne Helen Von Seggern, daughter of Arthur and Ella (Wobken) Von Seggern, was born Feb. 6, 1937, at her parents’ home near West Point. Joanne was the oldest of five children.

The family moved to Venus in 1941. She attended Venus District 44 and graduated from Creighton High School in 1954.

On May 18, 1958, Joanne married Dwayne Falter at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Venus. The couple was blessed with eight children: Darwin, Denise, Dana, Rod, Shannon, Todd, Brian and Amy.

Following her high school graduation, Joanne taught kindergarten through eighth grade in a one room school house in both Holt and Knox Counties.

She then went on to be a telephone operator, nurse aide, bus driver and x-ray technician. She worked in the accounting department at Avera Creighton Hospital (formerly Lundberg Memorial) for several years until her retirement in 2008.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. She loved dancing, gardening, baking, embroidering and watching her family grow. She had a big heart, wonderful sense of humor, and the best smile.

Joanne is survived by her children; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Betty Jean; brother Dale and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dwayne; two brothers, Dennis Von Seggern and Burnell Von Seggern; two sisters-in-law, Irene Von Seggern and Marlene Von Seggern; and niece Kay Hincker.
