Funeral services for Gerald E. Pries were held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Faith Lutheran Church, Parkston, with the Rev. Kenneth Soyk officiating.

Interment was made in the Parkston Protestant Cemetery with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston, in charge of arrangements. Honorary casketbearers were Ralph Palmer, Dale Carey, Kara Pries, Jessica Pries, George Shelley, Gert Leischner, Stephanie Pries, and Taryn Zirpel. Casketbearers were John Zirpel, Michael Zirpel, Dave Martin, Ryan Pries, Les Konstad, and Nick Herrick.

Gerald E. Pries was born September 19, 1925, to Everett and Amelia (Schmig) Pries in Waubay. He attended Waubay High School, graduating in 1942. He entered the United States Navy on November 10, 1943, and served during World War II in the Sea Bees, an engineering batallion, until his discharge on April 4, 1946.

He was united in marriage to Delores Martin on September 19, 1950, in Webster. Together they made their home in Waubay where he was the manager of the Waubay Creamery and business manager for the Waubay High School. In 1965, they moved to Parkston where he managed the Parkston Creamery and later became a state auditor for South Dakota. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Lutheran Layman's League and Faith Lutheran Church where he held various offices.

He died Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston at the age of 81 years.

He is survived by his wife, Delores, Parkston; three children, Gary Pries and wife, Dianne, Sioux Falls, Jeffrey Pries and wife, Renee, Rochester Hills, Mich., and Laurie Zirpel and husband, John, Keller, Texas; and six grandchildren, Kara and Ryan Pries, Stephanie and Jessica Pries, and Michael and Taryn Zirpel.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
