Ida was the daughter of John Ritter and Johanna Schmidt. She did not marry.

Carroll Daily Times Herald - November 12, 1957 - Miss Ida Ritter, 85, longtime resident of Carroll, died of a heart condition at 6:35 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony Hospital.

Miss Ritter, who lived at 713 North Crawford Street, had been at the Albert Hinze home for a few days before being admitted to the hospital Nov. 5. She had been in ill health for some time.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Huffman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ivan C. Bys, minister of the Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Carroll Cemetery.

Miss Ritter, daughter of John and Johanna Smith Ritter, was born March 9, 1872, at Buenda, Germany, bordering on Holland. Her father died in 1883.

In 1884, Miss Ritter who was then 12 years old, came to the United States with her mother, sister Anna, and brother John. They-went directly to the home of Mrs. Ritter's sister, Mrs. Henry Greenfield, seven miles northeast of Carroll. In the same year, Miss Ritter began working in homes in this community. With the exception of two years when she was employed in Milwaukee, Wis, she had lived in Carroll County since coming here from Germany.

Her mother died in 1910 in Carroll County. Her sister, Mrs. Anna Bohlman, died in 1939 after living with Miss Ritter for a number of years. The brother, John, passed away in 1951. Miss Ritter was a member of the Carroll Methodist Church which she joined when she was 22 years old.

Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Mary Seeden, Pico, Calif., and Mrs. Dick (Elsie) Heuton, Glidden, and two nephews, John and William Ritter, Glidden.
