June 18, 1951 - Carroll Daily Times - John Ritter, sr., who spent most of his life in Carroll and Glidden, died at 7:20 a.m. yesterday at a Tryon Nursing home here. Mr. Ritter, 84, had been in failing health the last six months. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Huffman Funeral home in Carroll. The Rev. John E. Wheatley, minister of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be beside his wife in the Carroll cemetery.
Mr. Ritter was born Jan. 8, 1867, in Bunda, Germany. In 1884, he came to Carroll with his mother, Mrs. Johanna Smith Ritter, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Bolman and Miss Ida Ritter.
He was married in Carroll in October, 1890, to Lena Rohrbeck, who died 35 years ago. A son, Freddie, died 20 years ago.
Surviving children are: Mrs. Mary Seeden and Emma Ritter, Huntington Park, Calif.; Mrs Dick Heuton, John Ritter, jr., and William Ritter, Glidden. There are 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Mr. Ritter was a member of the Presbyterian church here. He was baptised by the Rev. J.B. Lester.
