Adam THOMSON [variant spelling: THOMSON, TAMSON, TOMSON, THOMPSON] was born in Ireland 1765, son of Adam THOMPSON, 1737-1817, and of his wife, Mary - ;

Adam THOMSON was born in Ireland circa 1737, emigrated (from Brougshane, County Antrim, Northern Ireland) with his family to America at age 30, arriving in Charlestown, South Carolina abroad the Earl of Donegal, with Mary, age 30, John THOMSON, age 8; Peter THOMSON, age 6; Ann THOMSON, age 4; and Adam THOMSON, age 2; South Carolina Council Journal No. 33, January 6, 1767 to December 22, 1767, PPS. 313-326. SCDAH, Columbia, SC. microfilm BMP D552, CO 5/490, Pro Reel 48.

In the Council Chamber. Tuesday the 22: December 1767. Present His Excellency Governor Honorable Cthniel BEALE; Henry MIDDLETON; John DRAYTON; Daniel BLAKE, Esquires. The Clerk reported to the Board that in pursuance of his Excellency the Governors directions he had been on board the ship Earl of Donegal Duncan FERGUSSON, Master, and had sworn the Irish Passengers arrived in her to their being Protestants and haveing come over on the encouragement and bounty given by the act [Bounty Act of 1761] of the General Assembly passed the 25th day of July 1761 - agreeable to a List he had delivered in at the Board.

Earl of Donegal passengers who received royal land grants "at or near the Long Canes or in Craven County" included Adam THOMSON, who received a royal land grant of 100 acs. Ibid. P:260.

In January 26, 1768, 350 acres land on Beaver Creek, in Craven County, South Carolina was laid out (an irregularly shaped land plat) for Adam THOMSON.

Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church in the upper part of the Kershaw District was formed and a house of worship built in 1772. Families forming the congregaion included William RUSSELL, Hugh SUMMERFIELD, and Adam THOMSON. History of the Presbyterian Church in America. Vol:1. Howe, P. 416.

Adam THOMSON was enumerated on the 1778-1779 Petit Jury List for Camden District, South Carolina, residing on the east side of the Wateree River, as were Hugh THOMPSON, Nathan THOMSON, William THOMPSON, William THOMPSON, John THOMSON, Alexander THOMPSON and John THOMSON.
