Anna Stefano, 94, of Michigan City, IN and formerly of Milan, NY, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at St. Anthony Home in Crown Point, IN. Born on October 15, 1920, in Michalovce, Slovakia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Polak) Pavelko. Anna married George Stefano, Sr. on November 27th, 1937 in Slovakia and he predeceased her on May 4, 2000. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Imrick Pavelko and granddaughter, Michelle Conklin. For many years, Anna was a home maker, and also worked as a seamstress in the garment industry working for Fairfield Nobel Corp in NYC. Moving to America in 1946 with her daughter, Wilma, she took great pride in becoming a naturalized citizen of the USA. While living in Milan, Anna was a parishioner of St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook, NY. She is survived by her loving family, including a son; George Stefano, Jr.(wife Susan) of Milan, NY, two daughters; Wilma Conklin (husband Fred) of Lackawaxen, PA, and Janet Stefano of Michigan City, IN, and three grandchildren; Janet Conklin, Tara Stefano Dzurkoc, and Kristine Stefano D'Ambrosio; two great grandchildren, and her very best friend, Dzenka Witkovich. (In Slovakia live her two nephews, Jozef Pavelko, Fero Pavelko and a niece, Alena Zvarna.) Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, December 12th from 3 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at St. Christopher's Church, Red Hook, NY. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Barrytown, NY.
