Ralph Edward Reiling was born August 3, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of WJ and Emma (Reif) Reiling.

Ralph was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda.

He attended school in Fonda before joining the United States Army on March 4, 1952. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on March 3, 1954. After his release, he transferred to the Army Reserves for eight years.

On November 28, 1953, Ralph was united in marriage to Carolyn Youngdahl in Fort Riley, Kansas. Together, they were blessed with six children: Steve, Rod, Carol, Debra, Glenda, and Wendy.
Ralph was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. He also was a member of the Sioux Rapids American Legion.

Farming was a passion of Ralph’s. Alongside the fieldwork, Ralph worked as a delivery driver for ZFI and MY Supply.

Ralph’s hobbies included going to the casino, playing cards, watching movies, and traveling by car. A highlight of his later years included a trip on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Most of all, Ralph loved spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn Reiling; son, Steve Reiling; sisters: Ethel Faylor and Lucille McKiernan; and brothers: Albert and Harold Reiling.

Ralph E. Reiling, age 83, of Rembrandt, Iowa died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids with full military rites by the Sioux Rapids American Legion. Visitation will take place Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 4-6:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
