On Thursday of the previous week the burial of Mrs. Bernhardina von Bokern took place after a requiem with many mourners present. The sadly prematurely departed, of 47 years, was born in Lohne, Oldenburg. At age 25 she emigrated to America, where she lived for a brief time in Illinois. In the autumn of 1889 she moved to Freeport, Minnesota where she and her surviving spouse Gerhard von Bokern got married. Four years later the young couple moved to St. Rosa, where Mrs. von Bokern was stricken with stomach pains. It was diagnosed as stomach cancer which resulted in her slow death a year later. For years the departed was the president of the Christian Mothers' Organization where the membership held her in high esteem. Surviving the death of their good mother were 8 children ranging in age from 6 to 22 years old. Even the "Northstar" should commiserate with the survivors. Mr. von Bokern would like to offer his heartfelt thanks to the strangers and neighbors who showed their love during his wife's illness and funeral.
