OBITUARY from the Hobart Gazette January 12, 1906:
MERCY VINCENT
In the death of Mercy Pierce Vincent, on last Tuesday afternoon, Hobart lost one of its best known citiens. Mrs. Vincent has been in failing health for some time and because of her advanced age her death has been daily expected for the last few weeks. She died Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at her home, as peacefully as she had spent the more than 85 years of her life.
Mrs. Vincent was born in Schenectady, New York, March 28, 1820. She was one of 14 children born to Wheeler and Mary Pierce.
She was married in the State of New York to Martin Vincent and in about six years (1844) they moved to Indiana where Mr. Vincent acquired from the government the farm southwest of Ainsworth on which they lived until 15 years ago, at which time they moved to Hobart.
There were born to them seven sons and two daughters. One son and both daughters have died. The sons living are: Dr. A.W. and James, of Valparaiso, Reuben, of Kansas, D.W. of Crown Point, Martin, of California, and Chas. A. of this place. There are 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Vincent united with the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of 16 and continued in that faith and connection until the end of her life. Whe is well known and will be much missed by all who knew her.
The funeral services were conducted today at 1:30 p.m. at the M.E. church by Rev. Geo B. Jones, the pastor, and the remains interred in the Hobart Cemetery.
