Ruth W. Crumley, 90, of Monroe, Nebraska, died Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 1 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be family prayer service on Wednesday at 10:15 AM at the church. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Memorials are suggested to the following: AseraCare Hospice, Immanuel Lutheran School Scholarship Fund, or the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.

Ruth Crumley was born May 26, 1926, in Nance County, Nebraska, to Fredrick and Lydia (Hassebrook) Borchers. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Prairie, rural Platte Center, Nebraska. Ruth attended country school in rural Genoa, Nebraska. On June 22, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage to Wilburn Crumley at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Monroe, Nebraska. Ruth was a faithful member of St. Paul’s until its closing, and then became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.

After Ruth and Wilburn were married, they moved to Missouri for about three years, returning in 1951 and settling on a farm northwest of Monroe. In 1953 they moved into Monroe. Ruth was a homemaker and fixed hair in Monroe. In 1967 they purchased the Monroe Tavern and operated it until 1977. Ruth worked part-time at the Tavern, retiring at the age of 84. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, was a member of the Ribbons and Lace Extension Club, enjoyed gardening and doing word finds. She loved to entertain her large family at holiday dinners, spend time on the air boat, and go to her grandchildren’s activities.
